Ian Jesson — photographer

Ian Jesson

I am a photographer based in Warwickshire, England. My work spans landscape, macro, street performance, portraiture and travel - though I find myself drawn to landscape and macro, where patience and stillness tend to reveal the most.

Photography runs in the family. My late father Bob spent over 25 years as a professional wedding photographer, working primarily with medium format film and only adopting digital later as the technology matured. Growing up, I watched him turn the kitchen into a darkroom on Saturday nights 😏. Years later, after he started his own business, I helped him at weddings - he handled the formal film work while I shot candid digital moments alongside him. When he retired, I chose not to continue with weddings, but the time spent working with him shaped how I think about an image.

I work primarily with Olympus Micro Four Thirds system and have a small collection of prime and macro lenses. I edit my images as lightly as possible - what matters to me is capturing something real, not constructing it afterwards. Some images work better in monochrome, not as a stylistic choice, but because removing colour sometimes brings me closer to what I was trying to say.

This portfolio collects work from the last several years of travel and local exploration. Note: Images throughout this portfolio are exported with HDR gainmap data, offering enhanced dynamic range on compatible displays and devices.
